First I would like to say welcome to the forums, glad you stopped by. I also took the liberty of removing your other post about this matter.

Sounds like an interesting question. What makes you think he/she is having a problem? I knew a cat once who had only meowed once in his life. I was told that the cat seemed scared that it meowed. Quite odd.

So like I asked, what makes you say the cat is having a problem meowing?

she was normally a talkative cat meowing for many reasons and chirping (1/2 meow 1/2 purr) when greeted now she opens her mouth and an airy
lower pitched squeek comes out wwhich seems forced she also seems reluctant to make noise recently unless necessary

My Cat has been doing the same thing. He seems fine except it is like he is hoarse.

He is eating fine, and still playful, but can't meow for the past few days.

He is usually very vocal!

I will look and ask around and let you both know if I come up with anything.

OK, here is what I know is what I have found so far.

I did find many other cases of this but very few good answers for it. Ofcorse the best thing to do is take the animal to the vet if you ever have any questions about their health. I would not be a good pet related web host if I did not say that.

A few times people raised the concern of some type of irritation in the thought such as a growth or swallowing something. In this case I also wonder if bad hair balls could cause this problem.

I also found many places that said that meowing is a learned behavior and they learn to meow from their mom. However this does not seem to be an issue since both of you said that the lack of meowing is sudden. This may sound really weird but what about meowing at your cat to see what happens? If this does anything at all I do not think it will happen right away. But maybe when nobody is around (incase you worry about looking weird) try meowing at your cat for like a week or something and see what happens.

I will continue to research this in hopes of finding better information. But if there are any changes with your cats in the meantime then please let us know. Not only will you help me with information but you may help someone else that is looking for the same information.

In ending I would like to welcome "Sam I Am" to the sites. Make sure you stick around. We have lots of stuff to offer and are always working on adding more to the site.
