My Cats Won't Stop Eating Dog Food! 8 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Does anyone have any suggestions? My cats adore dog food and no matter what I do I can't make them stop stealing it. They'll ignore their own food and just go eat the dog food. Doesn't matter where I hide it; they'll find it! I have to lock my dog in the bedroom with his food just to make sure he gets any! And as soon as I open the door for anything, the cats go running in and devour his food.

I know cats shouldn't eat dog food. It can cause all kinds of problems, from UTI's and bladder infections from the way it changes the PH of their urine and causes irritation, to kidney and liver problems resulting from such an infection or from the ingredients of the food. It's no laughing matter and I'm worried about the cats' health, not to mention frustrated from having to replace the dog's food all the time, which is not cheap! Is there anything I can do to make them stop? If it were the dog stealing the cats' food, I could just feed them up on a table where he can't reach. But it's the other way around, and it seems there isn't anything THEY can't reach! HELP! :-

Maybe put your dog on a feeding schedule. Like 2 cups of food at this time and more at this time and so forth. Then when he is done put any leftover food back in the bag or something. I prefer that my animals can eat whenever they want. But this might be the best way to go for you.

Too bad that it is not then other way around and the dog eating the cat food because you could just put the food higher. If I come up with anything else I will let you know.
